Reliability/TQM Techniques

Course No. 315

(Course Outline shown below.)

For whom intended Program/Project Managers and Engineers, Design Engineers, Quality and Reliability Engineers and Technicians

Applications Advanced electronic assemblies for NASA, the US Department of Defense and leading industrial manufacturing companies were subjected to an extensive reliability improvement effort during the past decade. This effort included the development of innovative reliability test techniques. The overall approach resulted in dramatic improvements in reliability. This approach can be utilized during the development and acquisition of any complex equipment produced for government or commercial application.

Purpose To provide technical managers and design engineers with sufficient information of the essential elements of reliability and maintainability so that they can optimize their effort during the overall acquisition process. The operating environment is explored and the design engineer is provided with sufficient information to be able to optimize the design so that the device will satisfy the reliability requirement and be able to perform reliably in the environment. The technical manager is provided sufficient information that will enable the development of reliability plans based on realistic schedules and costs.

Brief Description of Course Lectures, illustrated with slides and transparencies, present an overview of the reliability process with special emphasis on the role of the design engineer during the development and acquisition of advanced electronic assemblies.

Certificate Programs  This course may be used as an elective for any TTi specialist certificate program.

Prerequisites There are no definite prerequisites for this course, but it is assumed that course participants are actively employed in reliability related fields.

Text  Each student will receive a course workbook, including most of the viewgraphs used in the course presentation.
