Instructor Biography: James Jones

James Jones has over 30 years experience as an engineer and over 25 years as a technical educator. He has worked in the nuclear industry and as a private consultant, providing training in geometrics for commercial design and development. His areas of technical expertise include pressure equipment, pressure relief devices, fundamental and advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME certified), National Electric Code, and engineering drawing and dimensioning. He was certified as a GD&T professional in 1995 by ASME at the Senior Level.

Since 1990, Mr. Jones has worked as a Lead Technical Training Instructor at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, West Mifflin, PA. He is responsible for all technical and engineering training programs at Bettis Laboratory, encompassing a broad range of technical areas. Since 1992, Mr. Jones has also operating his own private consultancy, working as a Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) instructor for design professionals and draftsmen. Working with with internationally known GD&T expert, Al Neumann, Mr. Jones co-developed GD&T Applications and GDT Stacks and GD&T Applications Training Programs. His GD&T teaching experience includes Bechtel, Ingersol Rand, Accenture and Composidie, as well as Pennsylvania State University.

From 1980 to 1990, Jones worked at Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Monroeville, PA, as a senior Training Engineer / SNUPPS Simulator Instructor. In this position he instructed nuclear power plant operators, engineers, and management in all aspects of fundamental theory and plant operation and provided several thousand hours of classroom, simulator, main control room, and in-plant training for initial qualification training, requalification training, and other specialized training programs. He also developed accredited classroom, simulator, and in-plant operator training materials, compiling and reviewing design basis documentation and information, and utilizing the Systematic Approach to Training. He conducted training for domestic and international utility personnel, as well as nuclear industry personnel including INPO and the U.S. NRC. Prior to 1980, Mr. Jones worked as an engineer for General Electric in Schenectady, NY.

Mr. Jones received his Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering (minor in nuclear and electrical engineering), from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, 1976. He has numerous professional and training certifications in the nuclear engineering field in addition to his ASME Senior GD&T certification.
