Dan Modi has over twenty years of experience in regulatory engineering. He has hands-on knowledge and experience in all aspects of EMC and safety regulatory requirements and has consulted for Fortune 500 companies in EMC and agency approvals. He has presented numerous seminars, papers and workshops.
As Product Certification Engineer (Group Manager) at Alcon Surgical, Irvine California, Mr. Modi is responsible for international certification of surgical products. He supports reviews, directs testing, generates Technical File and other certification documentation related to CE marking and other international regulations. He established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support development in compliance with the European directives and other international regulations.
Prior to working at Alcon, Mr. Modi was with Compatible Electronics, Inc. As Engineering Director and President of this large commercial EMC/Safety testing and consulting laboratory, Mr. Modi was responsible for management and growth of three southern California divisions. He kept up with emerging technologies and international regulations. He developed seminars and provided consulting to clients. He provided training in the industry on the European Union and other international regulations. During this period, he accomplished redesign and conformity of over 200 different originally non-compliant units/systems. Earlier, as EMC Manager, and in other Engineering/Managerial positions Mr. Modi was responsible for certification programs, training of engineers and for EMC consulting. He reviewed EMC analysis, test plans and test reports. He also supervised testing to a number of EMC specifications (FCC, VDE, CISPR, FDA, FAA, MIL-STD, etc.). Equipment tested covered a wide variety including Medical, Industrial Control, ITE and Telecommunications. He made significant contributions to improvements to Compatible Electronics' laboratory facilities and capabilities, and established a product safety lab, hired personnel and set up procedures for documentation and testing.
Mr. Modi received his Bachelor of Engineering degree (Instrumentation and Telecommunication) from the University of Baroda, India. He has also taken additional courses through professional training seminars presented by FCC, U.L., AAMI, IEEE, etc.
Mr. Modi's affiliations include IEEE, ANSI, NARTE, ASQ and AAMI. He has presented numerous seminars, workshops and papers, both at technical society meetings and on behalf of his employers. A list is available on request.
